For some, the heat is more like torture, while others are downright sauna fanatics who enjoy the high temperatures to the fullest. However, the medicinal benefits of sauna bathing are undisputed. However, there are a few things to keep in mind. First of all, you shouldn't go to the sauna if you have a cold. There's often a rumor that a sauna session is good for your health, but this only refers to a precautionary, prophylactic effect. Showering before and after sauna sessions is, of course, also important, but this varies depending on the type of sauna and the country or culture. Furthermore, it's recommended to leave the sauna promptly if you notice the heat becoming too much. Otherwise, you'll end up like a participant at the last Sauna World Championships in Finland...

But with the following 5 must-haves, nothing can go wrong. 1. Sauna towel Sitting naked on the wood in a sauna is an absolute no-go. Therefore, you'll first need a suitable seat or lounger. Special sauna towels are preferable to a regular towel. Because they have to withstand extreme conditions, sauna towels are more durable and, above all, more absorbent than regular towels. Because they're also slightly thicker, they feel very soft and fluffy against the skin, making them an ideal lounger. 2. Hygrometer and hourglass With a hygrometer, you can measure the humidity in your sauna and regulate it by pouring water over it. They are usually used in conjunction with a thermometer. To know how long you've been in the sauna, you usually use a traditional hourglass rather than a modern, digital clock. A sauna session lasts an average of 10-15 minutes. Pouring water over the hot stones is one of the most important aspects of a sauna session. As briefly mentioned earlier, pouring water over the stones increases the humidity and thus the perceived temperature. There are various types of infusions, but the most popular are essential oils, which come in a variety of scents, such as spruce, mountain pine, lemon, menthol, eucalyptus, and many more. These scents can have both a stimulating and a calming effect; they also invigorate mind and body, ensuring your sauna session is an unforgettable experience. 4. Bathrobe After a sauna session and a 10-minute cool-down phase followed by a cold shower, you should rest and relax for about 15 minutes. So, put on your bathrobe and hit the couch. You should also pay attention to the quality of your bathrobe so you feel comfortable and can enjoy the soft, cozy fabric against your skin. A bathrobe also ensures that you don't freeze. 5. Juice or juice spritzers During the break between sauna sessions, i.e., during the rest periods, your body's vitamin and sugar levels are at their lowest, making you dehydrated and feeling tired.
